Canada’s Garden Day

Canada’s first ‘Garden Day’, will take place on June 14, 2013, the Friday preceding Father’s Day.

The Canadian Garden Council’s objective in initiating the ‘Garden Day’ program is to counteract plant blindness syndrome by bringing awareness to:

  • the importance of public and private gardens
  • the values of home gardening
  • the benefits related to gardens
  • the promotion of environmental stewardship

This first Garden Day will see numerous events across the country in celebration of Canada’s public gardens and home gardening and act as the public launch of Canada’s Garden Route (www.canadasgardenroute.ca) .

Activities for gardening enthusiasts, families, schools and tourists alike will take place on Garden day, and could extend through the weekend (eg: A visit to your favorite garden experience would make a great Father's Day treat). To find out about activities in your area, please click on the ‘Activities’ button at the top of the page.

This first Canada’s Garden Day will be an opportunity for Canadians to go outside in their own garden, their favorite community garden or travel to a nearby garden destination to connect to their favorite garden experience.

If you are organizing an activity in celebration of this inaugural Canada’s Garden Day, and would like to register it, please fill in this form.
